Work paying off for Shugars

Archbishop Spalding offensive lineman Jack Shugars
excelled last fall and showed that he could dominate in the trenches.  The

success he had individually has pushed him to work even harder this off-season
and sweat has been paying off.
"I've been working out at the school and lifting with a buddy of mine. My
bench has gone up 55 pounds since last year. I didn't go out for wrestling so I
could lift and I have gotten a lot stronger since."
Shugars is hoping that he can help his team build off of their strong run
from last fall.
"We ended up 8-3 and had two really close games against Gilman and McDonogh.
I feel like we came up short in those games but we had a really good season. I
had a lot of fun."
Summer camps are on the horizon and Shugars is still weighing his options.
"I want to hit up a couple of Ivy League schools. I got Georgetown and Navy
just came by my school a few days ago to talk to me. Stetson is another school.
I am going to wait to see who calls and base my list off of that."
Shugars has a lot of colleges interested in his abilities overall.
"I have gotten a call from Stetson and was invited down to Towson and
Georgetown for spring games. I went to Georgetown and talked to their coaches.
They said we like your size and tape. We want to assess you at our camp. I have
gotten a lot of camp invites but some of them have been mass emails. I got
invited by Harvard to come to their camp."
At least two of the programs are recruiting Shugars the hardest.
"I'd say Stetson and Georgetown. Navy might be in there because the recruiter
just came to my school."
Shugars has one school that he grew up following since he was younger.
"I'd say Maryland."
