MDhigh.com and Rivals.com is sponsoring their annual Elite Showcase Camp at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House on Sunday, February 13. This year's event -- the Riddell All American Training Camp "Skills" Showcase and the Riddell All American Training Camp Lineman Challenge -- promises to be just as exclusive of an event as last year's star-studded camp, which saw numerous attendees go on to receive Division-I scholarships.
Last year's group included stars like Under Armour All-American offensive lineman Cyrus Kouandjio and U.S. Army All-American cornerback Blake Countess. Other attendees were Ohio State verbal commit linebacker Conner Crowell; Michigan State verbal commit linebacker Darien Harris; Buffalo verbal commitment Kendall Patterson; Virginia verbal commitments defensive lineman Vincent Croce, defensive end Marco Jones, offensive lineman Kelby Johnson and cornerback Jordan Lomax.
A few more elite prospects who attended were four-star recruit Darian Cooper, three-star stud Jeremiah Hendy, the state's top quarterback prospect, Zach Dancel, who is heading to New Mexixo as a safety. All-State defensive back Adrian Amos, Marshall commit Levern Jacobs and James Madison commit DeAndre Smith also attended.
The class of 2012 was also dominant at last year's event, and these top prospects are expected to be even more impressive this time around. The rising seniors are led by potential five-star wide prospects Stefon Diggs and Ronald Darby, who are two of the best at their positions in the country. Diggs could be the No.1 receiver prospect in America, and Darby currently holds the 55-mete indoor track record; he has been clocked at a blistering 4.2 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Another attendee was perhaps the best lineman prospect in the nation Washington, D.C., area. Eddie Goldman could claim up to 40 scholarship offers by the May evaluation period.
Other outstanding Showcase alumni are athletes like Cyrus Jones and Deontay McManus, running back Wes Brown, mammoth offensive lineman Mike Madaras, wide receiver Ian Thomas and defensive back prospects Charlie Jordan, Josh McPhearson and Devin Mayo.
Perhaps the most intriguing prospect of them all is a 6-foot-6, 240-pound quarterback, Ian Fisher, who passed for over 3,000 yards as a junior and is beginning to garner a lot of Division-I attention.
These prospects and many more potential superstars are expected to be on hand at this prestigious event at the University of Maryland's newly renovated indoor Sports Arena at Cole Field House.
Who is invited? All prospects who want exposure (all-star game invites, potential scholarship offers), want to compete against the best, and want to learn basic fundamentals and technique that will help them throughout their high school and college careers.
This year's events are called the Riddell All American Training Camp Elite "Skills" Showcase and the Riddell All American Training Camp Elite "Lineman" Challenge.
They will be take place at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House Indoor Sports Arena on Sunday, February 13 for the classes of 2012 and 2013 ONLY. These prospects are currently in their sophomore and junior years. This date will be for our "Top Gun" sessions. Sign-in times are on the registration forms.
The "Young Gun" (newcomer) sessions will be held at the same location on Saturday, March 19. This date is for the younger prospects from the classes of 2014 and 2015. These future prospects are currently in the 8th and 9th grades. Sign-in times are on registration forms.
Top high school coaches, trainers, and former NFL players from the area will assist in running the event, including legendary DeMatha coach Bill McGregor.
Keynote speakers will be on hand to help educate parents and prospects on current NCAA Clearinghouse legislation as well as great tips on the recruiting process. The event is a must for any prospect from the area who is serious about playing college football at the next level.
Rivals.com, which is owned by Yahoo Sports and annually attracts over 7 million traffic hits to its site on National Signing Day, will cover the event to provide exposure for this year's cream-of-the-crop prospects. A TOP 10 list of each position will be broken down and posted within the Rivals network.
Writers from the Rivals.com college network sites, such as the University of Maryland's Terrapin Times, Penn State's Blue-White Illustrated, and West Virginia's Blue Lot, will be on hand to evaluate prospects.
Profile pictures will also be taken of all attendees.
It will be necessary for all camp attendees to bring a "varsity" highlight video, if you have one. Top prospects will receive a Rivals.com profile. All camp attendees will receive a camp compression shirt courtesy of Riddell.
The surface at the facility is Astro Turf, and the best shoes to wear are training shoes, tennis shoes, basketball shoes, or sneakers. No cleats, screw-ins or rubber sole will be permitted on this surface.
This event is considered an "instructional camp." Our staff of coaches and professional trainers will assist in giving all campers, coaching tips throughout the event.
Dynamic warm up, position specific drills, and 1-on-1's will be conducted during the event. It is best that you register for the event at your primary position (the one that you expect to play in college). After position specific drills, prospects will be broken down into two groups to guarantee competitive balance and a fair and equal amount of reps for each prospect during the 1-on-1 phase of the camp.
There will be NO combine testing at this event. Combine testing has been banned on all college campuses per NCAA rules. No 40-yard dash times, shuttle times, pro agility times, or bench press reps will be recorded at this event in compliance of these rules.
