GC, DeMatha brace for No. 1 showdown

With Quince Orchard losing last week, it has left four private schools occupying the top four spots in this week's rankings -- and sets up a clash for No. 1 this Friday.

Top-ranked Good Counsel plays host to No. 3 DeMatha. Regardless of who wins, that team clearly has the best argument for the No. 1 ranking.

The Case For Good Counsel: The Falcons would remain undefeated against Maryland programs, which includes a win over current No. 2 Gilman should Good Counsel beat DeMatha.

The Case For DeMatha: If the Stags win, then the logical move would be DeMatha to No. 1, followed by Good Counsel and then Gilman -- given the head-to-head meetings this season.

While the Good Counsel-DeMatha meeting takes center stage this week, there are a few other contests with significant rankings implications, such as No. 12 Arundel vs. No. 16 Old Mill and No. 19 Dunbar vs. honorable mention Edmondson.
