Will Gonzales' departure impact recruiting?
When the new football season kicks off next year, it will be the first time in a decade that Urban Meyer will stand on the sidelines without having Billy Gonzales on his coaching staff. Gonzales taking another job is a loss for the Gators in several ways including - most importantly at the moment - along the recruiting trail.
The last two cycles he has served as Florida's recruiting coordinator and he has twice been named as one of the Southeastern Conference's top recruiters and then after the 2009 recruiting cycle, was named as one of Rivals.com's Top 25 Recruiter of the year.
As far as his individual efforts, over the past several recruiting cycles he has concentrated mainly on the mid-Atlantic region, Virginia - Washington, D.C. area, out-of-state. Inside the Sunshine State, Gonzales' primary area is Palm Beach and Broward County.
He of course also had a hand in recruiting prospects who are projected to play receiver on the next level.
